Unit converter for architects
Length, area, volume, mass and more, metric and imperial.
How it is calculated
Each value is converted through SI units using exact factors: 1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L.
How to use the Unit Converter
Convert the units architects and engineers use every day: lengths in millimetres, metres, feet and inches, areas, volumes and mass.
- Choose what you are measuring: length, area, volume or mass.
- Enter the value and choose its unit.
- Read the converted values and copy the one you need.
Worked example
10 ft is 3.048 m. 1,000 ft² is 92.9 m². One acre is 4,046.86 m², or about 0.405 hectares, and one cubic yard is 0.765 m³.
Good to know
- For lengths in feet and inches together, such as 10' 6", use the Feet and Inches Calculator.
- Area and volume factors are the square and cube of the length factor: 1 m = 3.2808 ft, so 1 m² = 10.764 ft².
- Local land units such as gunta, bigha or cent vary by state, so confirm the local definition.
