SketchUp to Revit, the BIM way.
Drop a SketchUp model. Every group and component becomes a clean, classified BIM element with Uniclass 2015 codes and ISO 19650 naming, delivered as an IFC that Revit opens or links. Free, and your model never leaves your computer.
- Free
- .skp, .dae & .obj
- Uniclass 2015 + ISO 19650
- No upload: runs in your browser
1Choose a SketchUp model
2Choose how to convert it

Everything happens in this tab. Large models can take a minute; keep the page open.
3Check the BIM classification
Worth checking
| Component | Qty | BIM class | Uniclass |

Your IFC is ready for Revit.
- Link it: Insert > Link IFC keeps it as a reference you can reload.
- Open it: File > Open > IFC creates the elements in their Revit categories, one type per SketchUp component.
- Uniclass codes appear as classification and in the Aakaar_SketchUpSource parameters.
Files are kept only in this tab’s memory and are deleted automatically when you leave this page, or after 30 minutes without activity.

The model could not be converted.
This browser cannot run SketchUp to Revit.
It needs a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Please update your browser, or open this page on a computer.
What the conversion does
- One BIM element per SketchUp group or component
- Repeated components become one shared type (one Revit family type)
- Classifies walls, doors, windows, floors, roofs, stairs, furniture, sanitary, lighting, planting and more
- Uniclass 2015 Elements/functions and Products codes
- ISO 19650 file name, status and revision
- Welds vertices, removes broken and duplicate faces
- Rebuilds clean polygon faces from SketchUp’s triangles
- Removes hidden tags, people, cars and sky
- Flags objects far from the model; optional move to origin
- Keeps materials and colours, names, tags and dynamic component attributes
How it works
- Choose a modelDrop a .skp, or a .dae / .obj export from SketchUp.
- AnalyseGroups and components become elements; geometry is cleaned.
- Check classesReview the suggested BIM class of every component and change any you like.
- Download the IFCNamed to ISO 19650, with a full conversion report.
- Open in RevitLink IFC, or open it to get elements in their Revit categories.
Why not import the .skp?
Revit can import a SketchUp file, but it arrives as one block of faces with no categories, no types and no classification: it cannot be scheduled, filtered or coordinated.
Converting through IFC turns the same model into real BIM elements that behave like the rest of your project.
- 1ReadGroups, components, tags, materials
- 2CleanWeld, de-duplicate, rebuild faces
- 3ClassifyIFC class and Uniclass 2015
- 4NameISO 19650 container and types
- 5RevitLink or open the IFC

Aakaar Architecture, BIM and design technology
Aakaar Tools are designed by Aarsh Kandra to remove the small, repetitive problems that slow architectural teams down: cleaning consultant CAD for Revit, and turning SketchUp design models into classified BIM. They grow out of CAD Cleaner & Smart Import, Aarsh’s add-in that cleans drawings and places them straight into Revit, and out of Aakaar’s own BIM work.
Questions
Can a website create a Revit family (.rfa)?
No website can: the .rfa format can only be written by Revit itself. This tool produces an IFC4 file instead. Revit opens IFC (File > Open > IFC) or links it (Insert > Link IFC), and turns each element into its proper Revit category, with every repeated SketchUp component becoming one shared type.
Are my models uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser. The model is read, cleaned and converted on your own computer; nothing is sent to Aakaar or anyone else.
When are the files deleted?
The SketchUp model and the IFC exist only in this browser tab's memory. They are deleted when you press "Delete files now", when you close or leave the page, or after 30 minutes without activity.
Which SketchUp versions are supported?
SketchUp .skp files from 2013 to the current version are read directly. If a file cannot be read, export it from SketchUp as COLLADA (.dae) or OBJ and convert that instead.
Which BIM standards does it follow?
The IFC file is named with the ISO 19650 information container convention (Project-Originator-Volume-Level-Type-Role-Number) and carries status and revision codes. Every element is classified with Uniclass 2015 (NBS) Elements/functions codes, and Products codes where they apply, as IFC classification and as readable parameters.
How are elements classified?
From the names of your groups, components and tags (for example "Door", "Chair", "Wall"), then from shape for unnamed geometry. You can review and change the class of every component before the IFC is made.
What cleanup is done?
Vertices are welded, broken and duplicate faces removed, triangles merged back into proper polygon faces, hidden tags, people, cars and sky removed, tiny fragments dropped, far-away objects flagged, and the model can be moved to the origin.
Is it free?
Yes. SketchUp to Revit is free to use. It is designed by Aarsh Kandra at Aakaar.
Need the whole model in Revit, done properly?
Aakaar rebuilds SketchUp and CAD designs as native Revit models, with families, standards and documentation, for architects and developers.
