How it is calculated

Each value is converted through SI units using exact factors: 1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L.

How to use the Unit Converter

Convert the units architects and engineers use every day: lengths in millimetres, metres, feet and inches, areas, volumes and mass.

  1. Choose what you are measuring: length, area, volume or mass.
  2. Enter the value and choose its unit.
  3. Read the converted values and copy the one you need.

Worked example

10 ft is 3.048 m. 1,000 ft² is 92.9 m². One acre is 4,046.86 m², or about 0.405 hectares, and one cubic yard is 0.765 m³.

Good to know

  • For lengths in feet and inches together, such as 10' 6", use the Feet and Inches Calculator.
  • Area and volume factors are the square and cube of the length factor: 1 m = 3.2808 ft, so 1 m² = 10.764 ft².
  • Local land units such as gunta, bigha or cent vary by state, so confirm the local definition.
