How to use the BIM Model Checker

Check an IFC model for common information problems before it is issued: duplicate GlobalIds, missing classifications and properties, elements outside a storey, naming, units and georeferencing.

  1. Open the IFC model.
  2. Choose a profile: basic model health, coordination (ISO 19650-oriented) or your own custom rules.
  3. Run the checks and open any result to see the affected elements.
  4. Show them in 3D, then export the report to CSV or Excel, or print it.

Worked example

Run the basic profile on a consultant's model before coordination. A warning such as "Elements without a classification: 6 / 15" lists the six elements, which you can isolate in 3D and send back with the Excel report.

Good to know

  • Custom rules can require a property on a class, such as IfcWall: Pset_WallCommon.FireRating.
  • Checks report what they test for. Passing them does not certify a model against a standard or contract.
  • Run the same profile on every issue to track whether the model is improving.

Questions

Is a passed check a certificate of compliance?

No. The checks show the issues they test for; they do not certify a model against a standard or contract.

Can I add my own rules?

Yes. The custom profile lets you require properties per IFC class and set naming patterns.

Is my model uploaded?

No. The IFC file is read by a WebAssembly engine inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the model is cleared from memory when you close the page.
